We've been involved with starting and training barrel horses for over 30 years. We strive to maximize each individual horse's potential by maintaining a healthy balance between arena training and riding outside of the arena. We believe a young horse needs time away from the arena drills in order to relax his mind and body. This prevents him from becoming bored or burned out. Each horse will frequently be ridden over our 350 acre farm through herds of cattle, across creeks and up wooded trails. During this time, he is gaining confidence and becoming a more balanced, mature horse. This helps to develop a better mind and prevents him from becoming ring sour or peaking too soon. Many days, the arena session will end with a trail ride through cattle. Each horse is an individual and thus will grow, mature and learn at varying rates. Our training focuses on creating a solid foundation before asking the horse to move on to the next step. Our goal is to help create a horse that will not only win at the futurity level but go on to becoming a solid winning open horse.
